Glaucoma is an optic neuropathy and leading cause of irreversible blindness in the world. In this workshop, we will discuss the primary components of an optometric glaucoma examination, following the generally accepted guidelines of the multi-national glaucoma societies and related organizations. We will use a stepped approach during the examination, an anterior to posterior ocular segment discussion.

About Brett Bence
Brett G. Bence, OD, FAAO joined the clinical staff at Northwest Eye Surgeons (Seattle) in 1988, becoming a partner in 2003. He provides medical and glaucoma consultations and treatment, pre- and post-operative patient care, and facilitates our continuing medical education programs. Dr. Bence is board certified by the American Board of Optometry, and is a Distinguished Fellow of the National Academies of Practice. He has presented over 200 lectures, research papers, and posters. He is a member of the Optometric Glaucoma Society, a sister organization the American Glaucoma Society, and a member of the Glaucoma Section of the American Academy of Optometry. He was president of the American Academy of Optometry for 2015-2016 and past president of the Optometric Physicians of Washington. He enjoys hiking on the Pacific Northwest trails, reading biographies of the US presidents, the challenge of long bike rides, and working vacations on their family Nebraska farms.
