This study aimed to investigate the relationship between astigmatism and accommodation disorders (hypofunction and hyperfunction) in school-age children. Specifically, it compared the types and axes of astigmatism (with-the-rule (WTR), against-the-rule (ATR), and oblique) across three groups: children with accommodation disorders, and a control group of children with normal visual function.

About Evita Kassaliete
Evita Kassaliete is an Optometrist, Assistant Professor at the Department of Optometry and Vision Science, University of Latvia, where she teaches clinical subjects including Clinical Practice I and II, Low Vision, Contactcorrection and organizes Clinical Practice for Dispensing Opticians. She has extensive experience in managing accommodation and binocular dysfunctions in Latvia and is involved in projects on visual functions in school-aged children, such as an ERDF-funded study exploring vision disturbances and diagnostic methods. Her PhD dissertation, \Characteristics of Visual Perception in the Cognitive Processing of Graphemes\” (2015), focused on the reading process through visual perception and cognitive tasks, with results published in Annals of Dyslexia. Dr. Kassaliete also leads the Dispensing Opticians program at Riga Medical College and serves as a Board Member and Chair of the Qualifications Council for the Latvian Association of Optometrists and Opticians.”
